More Texas, Please: Top 10 Ways to Add Western Flair to Your Event

Monday, August 31, 2015

It’s easy to get into the cowboy spirit at the George Ranch Historical Park. Brilliant blue skies, 200-year-old oak trees, turn-of-the-century buildings, Texas longhorns grazing in the fields…you can’t help but feel the true Texas spirit out here. But if you’d like to take your event to the next level, here’s a list of the top 10 ways our clients like to add a little extra Texas twang to their corporate meetings, picnics or Fandangos:

  1. Country Music

Music will set the mood for the entire event. Whether you choose to have a sound system, a DJ or an acoustic cowboy trio (with guitar, bass and fiddle), it’s probably one of the most important picks for a successful event.

  2. Longhorn Photo-Ops

Because nothing says TEXAS more than a genuine Texas longhorn!

  3. Armadillo Races

    Armadillo
Like pig races but more Texas-y…after all, the armadillo is the official state mammal!

  4. Checkered Linens

Go with checkered linens for a more casual affair or white linens with burlap overlay for a more rustic chic look.

  5. Mason Jars

Grab a jar and fill it with iced tea! Mason jars are a quintessential country staple.

  6. Chuckwagon

The chuckwagon is, by some stretch of the imagination, equivalent to one of today’s food trucks. The camp cook would follow the cowboys on their cattle drives and make sure grub was ready and hot at the end of each grueling day. Our period-correct chuckwagon makes a fantastic backdrop for any event, evoking memories of the Old West with all its rustic charm.

  7. Hay Rides

Tram rides are cool, but tractor-drawn hay rides are better!

  8. Hats & Bandannas

Another top party favor for your guests to take home: Cowboy hats and colorful bandannas!

  9. Board Branding

Learn a true cowboy skill — cattle branding (except with cedar boards)! It’s an activity that ties in the history of the Ranch and give guests a great hands-on activity plus a take-home memento!

  10. Barbecue

You can’t go wrong with classic Texas barbecue. Choose from beef, pork, sausage or chicken, a variety of sauces and all the extras — potato salad, cole slaw, rolls and butter…you’ll have some happy cowboys!
