The George Ranch 2017 Spring Internship
Lively and enthusiastic candidates needed for a 6-month internship at the George Ranch Historical Park. GRHP is a living history park in Richmond, Texas which explores over 100-years of Texas history. Through third and first person costumed interpretation and family collections, we develop and deliver programming that connects and inspires learners of all ages. We believe that understanding the past is a key to succeeding in the future and are looking for interns who will benefit from and share that message with others. Our interns help bring history to life!
Throughout the internship, the intern will work both in the education and collections department to gather valuable experience and a holistic perspective of the museum field. The candidate will have the chance to assist with projects which can include the planning and presentation of educational programming, interpretation research and facilitation, visitor services, special event coordination, evaluation of programs and services, collections care, and exhibition development. The intern will contribute to a long term research project to create a web based resource, using primary sources and images, for interpretive staff.
Preferred Candidate: Will be a graduate candidate in museum studies, public history or associated field from an accredited institution, with a focus/interest in museum education, public programming, interpretation, collections management, or museum exhibition. Experience working in museums preferred. Strong research skills and excellent verbal and written communication required. Must be comfortable or willing to work in historic period costumes. Undergraduate candidates will be considered only if no graduate candidate is identified. The Spring Internship is held through the beginning of January to the beginning of July (some flexibility is possible in scheduling). The Park’s Director of Programs will work with candidate to establish course credit and meet appropriate requirements. Having a car while interning with the Park is strongly encouraged.
Work Week: Approximately 40 hours per week, three days in programs and two days in collections, Tuesday through Saturday
Compensation: A $2,500 stipend for a 25 week period and shared housing with an additional intern from our sister museum will be provided at the George Ranch Historical Park.
