The Black Cowboy tradition holds a special place of prominence at The George Ranch. For over 100 years, four generations of skilled black cowboys worked for the Jones-Ryon-Davis-George families and helped create the successful ranching operations found across all four generations. From the enslaved Bob Jones to paid foreman Sam Ryon, these cowboys and many more made a lasting contribution to the family legacy.
Join us as we explore the lives of these dedicated and talented cowboys who made their mark on history. Students will tour the Ranch and discover what life was like for black cowboys during the 19th and 20th centuries.
