Runaway Scrape set for Saturday, April 9

Monday, April 4, 2016

RICHMOND – Experience a key event in the struggle for Texas independence at the annual Runaway Scrape re-enactment! Set for Saturday, April 9 at the George Ranch Historical Park, the Runaway Scrape depicts life in the spring of 1836, when the colonists were forced to flee for their lives from the incoming Mexican Army.

BATTLE RE-ENACTMENTS:

10:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. at the 1830s Jones Stock Farm

See the Texians in action as they struggle to retreat from an invading Mexican Army. It’s Texians vs. Soldados: Who will prevail?

ONGOING ACTIVITIES:

Before and after the battles, step forward 30 years at the 1860s Ryon Prairie Home. Participate in a militia drill and learn about the mock battles the Ryon children held for visitors in the 1860s. At the third historic site, tour the 1890s Davis Victorian Mansion and talk to “Uncle Bob” the Sharecropper. Finally, wrap up your visit with a stop at the 1930s George Home and Cattle Complex, where we will be digging up the past with an archeology dig and learning about some of the discoveries found on that very site by previous generations. Cattleworking and dipping vat demonstrations will also be held throughout the day.

RUNAWAY SCRAPE HISTORIC MEAL:

An 1830s historic lunch will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Jones Stock Farm.
