The George Ranch will be closing early on Saturday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. to prepare for our 200th Anniversary Rodeo.

Heritage Trail is now OPEN!

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the project, came out to support and took the unique interpretive journey with us for the first time!

(Left to Right) Amanda Hughes-Horan, Project Manager, Candace Jones, Park Executive Director, and Scott Barnes, Biologist leading the Prairie Restoration Project, cut the big red ribbon for the Grand Opening of the George Ranch Heritage Trail on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m.

This new park area is now officially open to all park guests. Visit us soon to take a scenic stroll down the banks of Dry Creek in the shoes of the early settlers who had to adapt to Texas terrain to survive. The half-mile loop is an all-weather handicap accessible trail.

Enjoy a variety of Texas wildlife living in and around Dry Creek as you explore the Heritage Trail. American Alligators, Red-eared Sliders and magnificent Great Blue Herons are only a few of the animals who call this area home.

Also, be sure to keep an eye on the Prairie Restoration Project as the newly planted seeds are sprouting a variety of gorgeous native Texas plants. The photo below is an example of what the one-acre patch of prairie should look like in time. Biologist Scott Barnes has been working on the Prairie Restoration Project for the past year. He explains that the restoration process in a slow one, but soon we should be seeing native plants beginning to thrive.
