We were blessed with gorgeous sunshine for both days of our Memorial Day Celebrations at George Ranch Historical Park on Saturday, May 25 and Monday, May 27.

Park Interpreter Matt Driggers invited guests to explore the tent of an army field surgeon in the days of Terry’s Texas Rangers.
This display was set up on the lawn of the 1860s Ryon Prairie home and featured a typical surgeon’s kit and the different kinds of shrapnel that would have been pulled from soldiers’ wounds in the Civil War era.

An impressive array of arms could be seen at the 1830s Jones Stock Farm Cabin. Park Interpreter J.R. Thomas demonstrated the power and loudness of these weapons for guests throughout the day by periodically shooting off a blank round, giving visitors a very small sample of what the battles for Texas Independence sounded like.

Special thanks go out to volunteers Corey Helweg and Charles Sumner for bringing out the big guns for this WWII display at the 1930s George Home. Guests were more than welcome to handle and inspect all of the artifacts and even take pictures in the jeep.

These WWII relics, from the personal collection of Park Interpreter Matt Driggers, were on display inside the 1930s George House.

Everyone gathered to the lawn of the 1890s Davis Victorian Mansion to enjoy a traditional Remembrance Day picnic lunch. The menu included fried chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, cowboy beans, and a choice of apple or peach cobbler.

World War II Veteran and survivor of Iwo Jima, Les Tolbirt attended the lunch with his family, including his great granddaughter Morgan Sackett. Thank you for your service!
