Tales of Texas 2014

Saturday, December 28, 2013

Explore the lives of important historical figures and famous Texas heroes during Tales of Texas at George Ranch Historical Park. Just in time for Texas Independence Day, this annual event features first person stories of early Texans, historical vignettes of life in four time periods, hands-on activities, and tours of historic homes.

“This is one of the only times during the year that the tales of important historical figures are told from a first person perspective,” said Krystal Willeby, Director of Programs. “During Tales of Texas, each of the interpreters becomes a particular person for the day, and they tell that persons story like it was their own.”

The cast of characters includes members of the Jones, Ryon, Davis and George families as well as people who were close to these families. Last year, Matt Driggers played Howard Hughes Jr., international figure, aviator, movie producer, and friend of A.P. George. Ron Strader portrayed John Henry Jones, cousin of Mamie George and the expert horseman who would later become ranch foreman and a key player in the development of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Tales of Texas runs for three days to accommodate homeschool groups, public and private school field trips, and the general public. Follow the links for details on each day:

Thursday, February 27 – Homeschool Day
