RICHMOND – Immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of more than 100 years of Texas history at the 34th annual Texian Market Days festival! Set for Friday, October 20 (school day) and Saturday, October 21 (general public day) at the George Ranch Historical Park, the annual folk festival is a community fall favorite benefiting the Fort Bend History Association. Guests can expect a day full of historical activities, including battle re-enactments, cattleworking demonstrations, cannonfire, vintage games, an artisan market, local food vendors and lots of hands-on activities.
“Texian Market Days is so great because it gives people of all ages something to enjoy and embrace. It makes history something real and something to talk about long after the event itself,” said Steve Nelson, 2017 Texian Market Days Co-Chairman and Fort Bend History Association Board Member.
Other highlights of the festival include live period music, outdoor cooking demonstrations and tastings at the Chuckwagon camp, Victorian games, antique vehicles and hands-on activities with Brazos Bend State Park.
This year, the Fort Bend History Association is delighted to announce NRG W.A. Parish Generating Station and Reliant, an NRG company, as the festival’s presenting sponsor.
“We are very honored to have NRG’s support and leadership for this year’s Texian Market Days festival,” said Director of Development Zarinah K. Poole. “As the presenting sponsor, NRG has shown lots of interest in helping us grow and shape this year’s event to draw bigger crowds. They are a true community partner and we are delighted to have Steve join our Chief Curator Chris Godbold at the helm of this year’s festival committee.”
The festival is a community event put on by the Fort Bend History Association (formerly the Fort Bend County Museum Association), the 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing Fort Bend County and Texas history. All proceeds from Texian Market Days benefit the educational and preservation efforts of the Fort Bend History Association, which includes the George Ranch Historical Park, Fort Bend Museum, DeWalt Heritage Center and other affiliates throughout the county.
